Honeymoon

Posted by Kristinia

When we discussed where we wanted to go for our honeymoon a lot of ideas were thrown around.  Many people said, "Why not Disney?" and after looking into that somewhat it looked like that would have required a lot more time to plan than we had allocated.  If anybody knows Ronnie or I, we love to travel, see new places, and have adventures.  Long before we ever knew of each other, Ronnie's mom said to him "you can't take a cruise till you're married" to which Ronnie more than likely laughed thinking "I am never getting married!!" Well, some years later he's planning a wedding and honeymoon.  After much thought and research, a 7 day Carnival Cruise was our final decision.  I knew that we would have 7 days to just be us, no phones, no wedding planning, no RSVP cards, etc.

Anyone that knows Ronnie, knows he is an "extreme" person so a unlimited eating, fun, and adventure atmosphere was just a little dangerous for him.  Luckily, he had me to be the  voice of reason in eating that extra Guy burger at 1 am.  We didn't do any research on excursions, events or anything beforehand so when  we arrived Sunday morning, everything was experienced together and it was so fun!!  We could write a whole book on our cruise and it still wouldn't be enough so I will let the pictures speak for themselves on how much we enjoyed paradise for 7 days.

Fun times during our "sea days" before the 1st port of call.

Of course, there were the daily puzzles.

Oh the bread....

The shows on the boat were great and so much fun.

The sunsets were always so spectacular!

BINGO!!

Towel animals!!

Our first port of call was Montego Bay, Jamaica
We took a pineapple plantation tour that was way up in the mountains.  The ride up to the plantation was rather interesting on the muddy dirt roads.  We sampled over 8 different pineapples but Jamaica doesn't export any of the pineapples it grows.
Interesting fact:  The US only imports 2 types of pineapples.

Learning about the agriculture of Jamaica

The man in the picture with us is the owner of  the plantation.  This was a special treat as he doesn't do much day to day with the farm.  He answered some questions we had about what is grown in Jamaica.

The plantation was on top of a mountain chain that runs the whole length of the island.  It was so beautiful!

We learned on our way up the mountain to the plantation that most homes in Jamaica can take up to 20 yrs to finish building.  The island is very poor, so the people build when they have the money and resources to do so.

We loved Jamaica and the beautiful people willing to show us their country!!

Our second port of call was Grand Cayman
We decided to swim with the sting rays and visit a turtle farm.  I have to say this was both exciting but a lot scary at the same time.  Our guides gave very detailed instructions, but I kept looking at Ronnie to make sure he was paying attention!!  I just knew he might try to wrangle one of the sting rays by himself.  This was also the 4th of July!!

Selfies on the 45 minute boat ride to the sandbar aka "sting ray alley"

There were a lot of other tour boats at the sandbar and there was no shortage of sting rays.

This was one of our guides "catching" a sting ray so we could kiss and pet it.

The newlyweds holding one together!!

The second part of the excursion was spent at a turtle farm.  We got to learn about how they raise turtles for both eating and education but mainly eating.  LOL.

Once we were done playing with the baby turtles we got to so snorkeling in the lagoon they had.  This was my first time snorkeling and it was fun.  Ronnie was an old hand at breathing underwater!!

After both the sting rays and turtle farm we were dropped off at the port with about 1.5 hrs of extra time.  So we walked around the port area visiting shops and eating some local fare.
We ate turtle soup, local fish and conch fritters.  The meal was so good.

When we got back on the boat we were very tan.
That night we ate at the ship's fancy steak restaurant.

More towel animals.

There was a 4th of July celebration on board that evening and we joined in and danced with the best of them!!

We would later learn that my sister who was unable to come to the wedding due to being 9 months pregnant,
gave birth to our nephew Ethan on that day, as well.  So we have a 4th of July baby in the family now.

Our third and final port of call was Cozumel, Mexico
We went on a Jeep, Caverns and Beach excursion. The meant that we got to drive Jeeps from the port to the caverns and then to a beach for lunch.

Once at the caverns we got to swim in the ICE cold waters that flow through them.  It was so amazing to see the stalagmites and stalactites that had formed over thousands of years before.

Back in the jeeps to drive to the gorgeous beach and have lunch.

Dinner each night was usually shared with this very nice couple from Dallas, TX.  Each barely spoke english as she was from Peru and he was from Cuba.   They were so sweet and we enjoyed seeing who could order the most plates of food each night.  I think it was a tie between Ronnie and Hermes.
Last Day at Sea on our Cruise!!
They were offering a class on towel animals and of course we went.  It was fun and we even bought the instruction book that has over 180 towels animals in it.

We finally got to play putt putt on our last day on the cruise.  It was a 9 hole course and it was right at the base of the smoke stack.

Relaxing before dinner on our balcony.

It was always the best way to begin and end our days!

This was our wait staff for our table that week.
They were always so nice and entertaining each night.

We had to get a picture with our life vests on, even thought we didn't need them.

Well our last day wasn't really our "last" day on the ship.  Due to a tug boat sinking at the mouth of the Mississippi River, our ship was diverted to Mobile, AL.  The below picture is us on the very top deck of the ship trying to get some cell phone service as we came into Mobile Bay.

We loved our honeymoon and the adventures we had will forever be remember and cherished.
